Julian Weigl was probably in contact with several clubs regarding a change during this transfer period. Marco Reus reveals the changed situation around the new documentary series “Inside Borussia Dortmund”. The black-yellow are threatened by a heavy group in the Champions League. Here you can find all news and rumours about the BVB.
Last season, Julian Weigl played a minor role under coach Lucien Favre and only came to the fore when the central midfielder helped out in central defence. A farewell in this transfer period seemed probable, but is now finally history.
The former international is one of the winners of the preparation and also the kicker is now sure that Weigl stays. At the same time, the kicker also revealed that Favre’s rethinking probably came at just the right time.
Accordingly, Weigl, with a new consultant at his side, had seriously dealt with a change of association. There is said to have been contact with AS Rome and the French clubs Olympique Lyon and Olympique Marseille. Thomas Tuchel’s PSG has also been listed as a potential customer for months.
On Wednesday evening Borussia Dortmund presented its new documentary “Inside Borussia Dortmund”. On the fringes of the event, Marco Reus spoke about the changed situation in recent weeks.
“It was already another situation, the camera was there every day,” said the captain. “Even in the cabin, the sanctuary of a great crew. But it’s a great thing that the audience can be there up close.”
Starting this Friday, the first part of the documentary by the award-winning filmmaker Alyosha Pause will be available at Amazon Prime. A new episode will be added every week until 13 September.
The draw for the Champions League group phase 2019/20 will take place on 29 August and most of the 32 teams are already divided between the four different pools. The BVB only finds itself in Lostopf two and will therefore most likely meet an absolute top team.
In pot two are the winners of Champions League and Europa League as well as the champions from Germany, Spain, Italy, England, France and Russia. The reason for this is the UEFA four-year ranking. The classification of the clubs in the pots two to four is then based on the club coefficient.
Accordingly, teams like BVB or Real Madrid can only be found in Lostopf two. In the worst case, the black-and-yellow are threatened by a group with Manchester City, Inter Milan and Galatasaray, for example.
Olympique Lyon, KRC Genk and Lokomotive Moscow are also qualified for the group stage. However, the clubs have to wait for the playoffs to come out before they can be assigned to a lottery pot.
