FC Schalke 04 has to listen to Friedhelm Funkel’s mockery of Benito Raman from Fortuna Düsseldorf in his campaign for the title. Rudi Assauer is immortalized. Yevhen Konoplyankas days in Gelsenkirchen seem numbered. Here you can find all news and rumours about FC Schalke 04.
FC Schalke 04 has to listen to the mockery of Fortuna Düsseldorf’s Benito Raman by his trainer Friedhelm Funkel in his bid for Fortuna Düsseldorf. “The first offer was seven million euros. In return, the lion goes from Nuremberg to Hertha. But he only scores one goal per season,” the Fortuna coach told the picture.
Schalke would have to pay the “appropriate fee”, explained Funkel. He had understanding for Raman’s wish to change, but he could not give away the attacker either: “Although I don’t want to name any numbers now. I treat him if he can earn double and triple on Schalke. But the redemption must be in line with the market!”
Funkel’s comparison, however, is not nailed down. According to kicker, Löwen actually moved from Nuremberg to Berlin for around seven million euros, but the 22-year-old is a defensive midfielder and scored three goals last season. Raman, an offensive player, scored eleven goals and five templates.
FC Schalke 04 will immortalize the recently deceased Rudi Assauer a few meters in front of the stadium. The square in front of the Veltins Arena and the goal on Schalke is named after the longtime manager. This was decided by the Planning Committee of the City of Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday.
Thus the official address of FC Schalke 04 will be “Rudi-Assauer-Platz 1” in the future. However, a street in Assauer’s home town of Herten is not named after him. This project of the municipality was rejected by his family. In an open letter, daughter Bettina Michel called this idea a “third class tribute”.
Assauer had died on 6 February 2019. The then 74-year-old suffered from Alzheimer’s for a long time. He was manager of FC Schalke 04 from May 1981 to December 1986 and from April 1993 to May 2006.
FC Schalke 04 will probably part with Yevhen Konoplyanka and Hamza Mendyl this summer. The kicker reports that coach David Wagner wants to get a picture of both players before.
Konoplyanka is still under contract until 2020. The Ukrainian came from FC Sevilla in the summer of 2017, but was rarely able to live up to his high expectations. The performances of the wing player varied strongly. For Schalke he scored six goals in 57 games.
Mendyl was contracted in the summer of 2018 and was awarded a contract until 2023. However, the left-back was not able to assert himself and was even pushed into the U23 by interim coach Huub Stevens. In the kicker he said: “I would like to stay on Schalke. Next season, I want to show you what I’ve got.”
