In the week after the disastrous appearance of BVB at FC Bayern there is good news for the black and yellow. On Tuesday, Paco Alcacer returned to team training. For Julian Weigl, however, the time at Borussia Dortmund could soon come to an end.
At the 0:5 in Munich he was still painfully missed. Now the Dortmunders have him back again. Paco Alcacer trained on Tuesday for the first time since his arm injury. This is documented by the BVB on its Twitter channel. The top striker should be available again on Saturday for the performance against Mainz.
BVB noticeably lacked the presence of the Mittelstürmer against Bavaria. For him, coach Lucien Favre set up Marco Reus in the top position and not Mario Götze as expected by many. Lack of trust?
Reus complained after the game that everyone knew it wasn’t his favourite position. The return of Alcacer solves this problem in any case. The Spaniard plays the most successful season of his career and has scored 16 Bundesliga goals so far.
In addition to Alcacer, Raphael Guerreiro was also observed in BVB’s public unit. In this Favre had various passport game units carried out. For the coach, it means getting the game from Saturday out of the minds of the players.
“The task now is to overcome this defeat,” explained Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke. Favre must try “to make the team loose so that it can enjoy football again”.
On Saturday, the BVB will face Mainz 05. In the meantime, he can climb back to the top of the table and put pressure on FC Bayern, who will only be competing in Düsseldorf on Sunday.
Julian Weigl’s season is anything but according to plan. Under Favre, the 23-year-old is no longer entitled to a central midfield spot. Axel Witsel and Thomas Delaney are set in the center. Weigl’s beloved central role of six does not exist in Favre’s plans.
If, Weigl was last used on a temporary basis as central defender. So also after 45 minutes in the game against FC Bayern. The native of Bad Aiblinger is by no means satisfied with this role. The picture reports that Weigl has a change in mind.
And where would Weigl rather be drawn than to the teacher who once presented the protégé on the big football stage? The paper says that former trainer Thomas Tuchel would like to take him back with him. Weigl has a contract until 2021.
