Doping offences: Two Salzburg banned for three months

Published on

The case was already known, and now a verdict has been handed down: Mohamed Camara and Sekou Koita are missing Red Bull Salzburg for a three-month doping offense.

Salzburg announced the decision of the disciplinary committee of the European Football Union on Thursday shortly before the Europa League match against FC Villarreal. It is not a deliberate doping offence – but the professionals are responsible for the introduction of prohibited active substances into their bodies.

Camara and Koita (both 21) had been tested positively in Salzburg on 22 November. Both were „on the Mali national team about ten days ago and were given a remedy for altitude sickness by the team doctor, which contained an active substance on the doping list,“ Salzburg announced. „The responsible team doctor was immediately suspended by the Malian Association.“

Mali had travelled to Windhuk in Namibia, about 1700 metres high, to qualify for the Africa Cup in Bamako (350 metres high).
